Poetry is a workable
tool for communicating thoughts and ideas freely and without fear of nature or
circumstances. In every generation, there is always the presence of people who
would communicate their thoughts and feelings in this medium. It is on this
premise that the poem "The Time for All" is written.
I'm sure by now, the
poetry inclined persons must have given their criticisms having read the poem.
We should understand that, the intended meaning of the poet is not binding as it
is an open cheque plain to be written as understood.
The poem in all has
five stanzas and each stanza has three lines structured to communicate the
poet's feelings appropriately.
The first stanza is an
opening to the concept of time as it explains the fact that time is universal
and natural. It works on its own not minding the people it was meant for. As an
individual, your time starts with you and it goes along with you to the end of
your life. Time doesn't follow, the individual follows it because it is natural
and universal.
Stanza two and three
talk about the indivisibility of time. It doesn't change, it goes the way to
fulfil its mandate. But one mysterious part of it is that, it has the ability
to shape destiny, that is, figure out what we become in life, but, it is
possible when we allow ourselves to be directed. We are allowed to be directed
by time, or be controlled by it, we get to a level that we have the ability to
say, "there is time for everything". The succeeding message states
that, "he who knows this has the whole world with him".
Stanza four further
strengthens the fact that time is universal,
"The
early morning cock crow belongeth
Not to an household
only
But to the entirety
of the neighbourhood".
As soon as the cock
crows, if you wish to wake up, you do, but if you do not wish to stand up and
get going, whatever happens, it is a personal case.
Stanza five summarizes
the poem by making a solemn declaration that you need to "get your mind fine-tuned to
read the time".
It is also a clarion
call as it points out the benefit of knowing what the time has to offer
humanity.
The major themes and
focus of the poem include the following:
ü The
universality of time.
ü Knowing
that everything has time.
ü Exemplifying
the concept of early to bed, early to rise.
ü Grabbing
every opportunity as it presents itself.
ü And
